Activities

According to the size of the vessel, the number of AB can change, from 1 to 6-7.
On the deck, under the responsibilities of the deck officer in charge of the watch or of the Boatswain; the Able seamen (AB) participate to all manoeuvres of the vessel at sea or in the port: berthing, unberthing, towing operations.
On the bridge, the AB participate to the watch keeping by checking the horizon and by informing in case of obstacles, vessels approaching or when the vessel approaches the coast.

They participate each day to the cleaning of the vessel. They assist the deck officer during loading and unloading operations.

Independently of the vessel type, the safety and security principles, the protection of the environment apply and require the following skills:

– Technical skills
– Availability, rigorousness, vigilance
– Adaptability
– Capacity to work in a team
